The founders of Montgomery Academy of Performing Arts, Timothy and Crystal Hubbell, have been committed to developing young minds since 1988. Timothy, a licensed teacher, and Crystal, a certified Suzuki piano instructor and graduate student in mental health counseling enjoy helping people reach their full potential. At Your MAPA, children and adults are seen as individuals, and natural strengths are identified and built upon.
Crystal Hubbell found out the hard way, that not everyone learns through the traditional approach. After a hectic beginning as a music major, she realized that her traditional teachers did not wish to develop her natural ability to play "by ear". Cryst
al changed majors and obtained a BA in psychology. After graduation, she obtained certification from the Suzuki Institute to teach the Suzuki method. After 20 years of teaching, Crystal has refined her approach to include note reading as well as ear training. It was also noted that during those precious years of teaching, students of all ages, benefited, emotionally, cognitively, and even physically by learning music. That is why Crystal has continued her education in the Mental Health field to be more equipped to help students with learning problems and special needs.
All of our teachers subscribe to the same philosophy. Our teachers are experienced and go through a rigorous screening process before joining our team. The teachers were chosen because of their love for their art and for their admirable patience and giftedness with children and adults alike.
Our learning center is clean and quiet, offering an environment that makes it easy to focus. We strive to create a stress free environment by designing our learning center with comforting colors, comfortable furniture, and a comfortable climate. We make sure distractions are removed. Individualized attention ensures that your child remains engaged.
MAPA focuses on building confidence, motivation, focus, and problem solving skills. Teachers share successful strategies with students so they can succeed on their own. Our friendly, warm, and enthusiastic instructors create a safe and supportive atmosphere for your child.
